Kings of the Trail #008

Welcome to Kings of the Trail #008!

We here at Kings of the Trail are obviously massive lovers of nature and the natural world but, if we are honest, it's not often we consider the impact our involvement in our favourite sporting activities can have on the world around us. However, there are top athletes out there that have made this a substantial part of what they do – from reducing their travel to using kit for longer and more. Our first story this week looks at what these athletes and some sporting events are doing to make a difference for the better.

We also look at the benefits of being out in nature (all the more reason to protect it!) and check out some of the best and most beautiful hikes in the world. If you're planning on sleeping out in the wild our final article has tips on how to get the best night's sleep possible.

Please follow our social channels and share this newsletter with anyone that you think may be interested!

More to come next week, but for now, enjoy this week's edition, be safe and enjoy the trails…

The massive impact that sport and sporting events can have on our planet is often not considered, but it's estimated that it's carbon footprint is roughly equivalent of a major European country. However, not all athletes and sporting events are taking the natural world they compete in for granted.

The Japanese appreciate walking in forests so much, they have a special name for it; shinrin-yoku (forest-bathing) you can find the benefits too.

Are you ready to explore away from the hustle of daily life? These seven hikes are waiting for you!

After a full day out on the trails, it's important to get a good night's sleep Here is how you can ensure comfort wherever you sleep.

Each week we will update our Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone.

This week it's an old favourite and one that has been on my personal running playlist for many years…a great rock song, with a solid beat, a hooky chorus and sing along lyrics…the only problem is trying to run and sing at the same time – I have had many strange looks belting this out whilst pounding the streets! Enjoy and try not to get too out of breath! Listen on Apple Music Listen on Spotify

Hitting the trail is hard work and recovery is an essential part of any training programme, so how about sitting back and taking a few moments to enjoy some fun?
