Kings of the Trail #020

Finding joy in life comes in many ways…whether it’s a quiet path leading into the distance ready to be explored, a fascinating nature documentary or learning to love the act of running, being present and making the most of each mile…these moments should be encouraged and celebrated. Life is hectic and crazy, so it’s important to pause occasionally and ensure that you truly “feel the rapture of being alive” as Joseph Campbell enthused.
This week I hope some of the ideas, sounds and stories will bring a little joy to you this week…the story about Martinus Evans certainly brought a smile to my face and chalks one up for the underdog…Martinus is someone who runs purely for the joy of running and not for anyone else’s benefit. We should all share some of that joy and attitude!
Please follow our social channels and share this newsletter far and wide with anyone you think may be interested.
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails…

Trail running has long been considered niche, but more people are getting out on the trails and leaving the road behind…what are the benefits and how can you bring joy back to your running?

For a lot of runners, the choice is all too easy; running comes more naturally, feels easier and is the go-to exercise…so many stick to what they know. I am guilty of that myself, so was interested to learn the full benefits of biking.

Martinus Evans was mocked, laughed at and downright insulted for not having the build of your average runner, but he was determined to prove the many doubters wrong…he now encourages and helps others who may be left behind to get involved in running.

As chosen by nature lovers, these are the best documentaries to sit back, watch and relax for the times when you can’t be out there exploring yourself. Gorgeous to look at and with incredible things to learn, sounds like a very productive use of time.

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
This week’s tune is called Positive Space – a good way to be in order to find joy. A smooth instrumental beat, with gently flowing lyrics make this a good one for recovery runs…and this brilliant lyric sums up the vibe this week; “If you’ve got a load of voices in your vegetable/avoid the noise that tries to poison your receptacles.” Indeed.
