Kings of the Trail #031

While the running world’s attention has switched focus to the mountains for the UTMB after the successes and excitement on the track at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest maybe you are thinking of running again, starting for the first time or chasing a PB? (I am in the latter camp – marathon training in full swing!) Then this week there is something for you, as this edition is all about the joys and wonders of running.

“I always loved running…it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.”

Jesse Owens

From beginner advice and how to get into running – no matter how far or fast you go (it all counts!) to tips on how to improve form and efficiency this week, we cover a range of running topics. Is running bad for your knees? How to plan a training schedule? It’s all here, and more…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails…

Running is a simple thing to do but can be overcomplicated or made to feel harder than it should be, so don’t let that put you off and follow these tips to get you started.

Learning to change your running form and improve efficiency is not an easy or quick thing to do, but there are ways to work on the details and develop what works for you…

There is a tendency to worry about the increased stress and pressure that running puts on your knees…but take the right precautions, strengthen them and you’ll be running for miles to come…

When you want to go further or faster, beat a PB or just improve and develop your running, planning a training schedule successfully can help achieve your goals…

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Sometimes you hear a track, or a snippet of a track and have to find out what it is immediately. This was one of those for me. Ana Tijoux released this track almost ten years ago, but it sounds so fresh and her delivery is just brilliant – even if I don’t know what she is saying! It also makes for a fantastic running track, so get your headphones on and get out there…
