Kings of the Trail #032

Summer coming to an end with the promise of work and schools starting up again can often be accompanied by a sense of dread and frustration at the impending routine and drudgery of daily life. However, it can also provide the perfect opportunity to find and develop new routines and establish new behaviours. A chance to tweak the system and introduce new habits.

“Every day of our lives, we are on the verge of making those slight changes that would make all the difference.”

Mignon McLaughlin

So, let’s embrace the opportunity that this time of year brings, rather than feel frustrated at being back to the old routine…maybe it’s adding in a small daily exercise boost; choosing to walk rather than drive to the shops or take the stairs rather than the lift for example…the induction of small day-to-day systems can help you achieve whatever goals you may have and you could be surprised at the results. The old maxim certainly holds true; “Change doesn’t happen in a day, it happens daily.”

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails…

This past weekend, the trail running world was absorbed and glued to events at UTMB, which saw Americans winning both the male and female races in record-breaking times…but what lessons can we learn from these incredible athletes?

The half marathon is a great distance, where speed meets endurance without the massive preparation or recovery needed to complete a marathon. Here’s how to ensure you arrive at the start line in the best shape…

If you love running, why should pregnancy stop you from enjoying the trails? With advice and tips from experienced and record-holding runner (and mother) Julia Davis, you don’t need to stop – you can continue to do what you love…

Dreaming of another trip now that summer is coming to a close? Or maybe you have some extra time off and are looking for ideas…here are 16 of the most beautiful and incredible hiking trails to consider for your next adventure.

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

This slightly older track from Alex Ebert is a fun musical journey. It rolls along at a more sedate pace than my usual selections but with a load going on – interesting whistles, harmonies and catchy lyrics and chorus it’s a top track…I also found out it was used on the incredible TV series Breaking Bad, which is endorsement enough for me!
