Kings of the Trail #035

A chance meeting with someone, a bit of unexpectedly good weather, inspiration striking at the moment when it’s needed, discovering a new and enjoyable route on your run, walk or ride…each new day can bring us something surprising or uplifting that helps serve as a reminder of the diversity, variation and possibilities that exist in the world…you might just need to keep yourself open and on the lookout for them…

“This is a wonderful day, I have never seen this one before.”

Maya Angelou.

So, open your ears, eyes and hearts this week to this week’s articles, as we discover the science behind running training programmes and how they have developed over the years, including how using our evolutionary past will shape our training future. Learn how to bring some variation and freshness to your camping and hiking cooking and avoid packaged meals. We also look at how trail runners can get better with age and explore what’s in a name, to these folks in Colorado it’s a lot more than you might think…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails…

With Marathon season underway a lot of you may be coming to the end of your training blocks (hello, tapering!), but have you considered how and why these training ideas and plans are devised or the science behind them? If so, this article has you covered…

Prepared trail meals have come a long way and can be essential to outdoor adventures, particularly if travelling light. If you have the time and pack space, this guide will help ensure you have a stomach as satisfied as your tired legs…

Returning to running and hitting the trails after a long absence has brought new perspectives on how to use age and experience to bring out your best and tackle any challenges that lie ahead…

We often take the names of places and trails for granted…but in an attempt to make the trails and parks more open, accessible and recognisable for everyone, having representation in the names of the trails can mean everything.

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Only together for a short time before the members went on to even greater things (Bon Iver, Field Report…), the band DeYarmond Edison, made some wonderful music. A recent collection of rarities and live songs unearthed this gem…it may start all mellow and soulful, but you’ll be singing, smiling and hitting repeat by the end…after all…”it’s alright, it’s OK, nothing wrong with today…”
