Kings of the Trail #036

Being aware of the changes that come with each different season, is for me, one of the joys and wonders of nature. Each transition brings something exciting, interesting and beautiful in its own way and being aware of these changes is really enhanced when you are out exploring the trails.

“I think that to one in sympathy with nature, each season, in turn, seems to be the loveliest”

Mark Twain.

Kings of the Trail attempts to ‘be in sympathy with nature,’ throughout our daily lives, enjoying each season’s wonder for what it is and the stories this week reflect that; from a better understanding of the recovery process to looking into the chemical changes that happen in our brains as we run…to the chance to wild forage and cook up some of nature’s tasty treats or enjoying what a lot of people would consider the ‘loveliest’ season, autumn, with spectacular walks…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails…

Discover the truth behind recovery myths, from ice baths to chocolate milk, and unlock the secrets of optimal rejuvenation. Empower yourself with the enlightening knowledge of the science of recovery…

This is a story from a few years ago, but I was fascinated reading it after coming across it recently. I can attest to the psychological benefits and it seems that science agrees…

We often cover the best camping and hiking gear, including cooking necessities here at Kings of the Trail, but how about how you find and identify safe and tasty food out in the wild? Wild foraging is the ancient art of doing exactly that…

Although this guide is mainly centred on North America, with autumn approaching across the Northern Hemisphere the advice and ideas in this article ring true for anyone wanting to bask in the colourful wonder of fall forests…

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Another classic tune this week. With all the talk of seasons and changes, I could really only select this tune. There are particularly strong memories attached to this song for me as I listened to this track on repeat the day I left my office job and stepped into the unknown…”ch-ch-changes…”
