Kings of the Trail #039

Last week saw the Ironman come to town and what an inspiration it was to witness. The incredible endurance, skill and mental fortitude that these super athletes put into this extremely challenging race was truly impressive. A feat only matched by the amateur athletes competing in both the full and 70.3 events. It has certainly served as motivation for me and I intend to sign up for next year’s event…I just need to overcome my dislike for swimming in the sea first!

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.”

Jack Kerouac

So for this week’s newsletter, the stories are all intended to help inspire and motivate to try new things…getting out there and ‘climbing that goddamn mountain.’ For example, how about an adventure holiday in place of chilling by the pool, trying hut-to-hut hiking or maybe even sky running…or getting up close and personal to the most famous mountain of them all?

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Hiking between mountain huts is an incredible adventure, and guess what? It's optimal to do so outside of the summer season. Leave the heavy kit behind and enjoy the journey.

Does the idea of sitting by the pool or strolling around some historic landmarks fail to get you excited? Then maybe you should step into the unknown and challenge yourself…

You may not have heard of Sky Running but it’s been practiced for years and there is even an official Federation for the sport. If you love mountains, running and testing yourself at high altitudes then this could be the new sport you have been looking for…

Whilst summiting the world’s highest peak may be out of reach to most of us, that doesn’t mean the wonders of Everest can’t be savoured and enjoyed, as there are less challenging options to be found.

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Inspiring…check…mountains and valleys…check…love and positivity….check…how could I not select this absolute gem of a song from 1970 for this week’s selection? Especially with the last article about the world’s highest peak…there are some things that transcend time and place and are just magnificent - this falls into that category.
