Kings of the Trail #042

Part of the joy of running, for me, is the feeling of freedom and escapism, something that is much needed in these hectic daily lives we lead. I try to approach and embrace the playful aspect of these opportunities, especially when out on the trails, using the natural world as a playground, but also when I am confined to more urban environments…swerving through people like a car racing through traffic or jumping off benches like a child in a playground. So next time you are out on a hike or a run, try to embrace your inner child and let yourself go…

"We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything, than when we are at play."

Charles Schaefer

So, this week, let’s play! We cover how to get started on the trails and feel the fun and joy it can bring, what to look out for on different terrains you may encounter and we examine the attributes ultra runners possess and how they can be utilised in business and life or if hiking is more your thing, we offer some incredible mountain view hikes to check out…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

I think I could add a few more items to this list, but here are four key attributes and behaviours of ultra-athletes that are transferable to other areas of your life, both in professional activities and life in general…

You don’t have to be racing around to feel the benefits of play when out and about, hiking can bring on unique and wonderful feelings, so how about checking out these great hikes across the US...

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Personally, I think Steve Lacey’s solo career is more interesting than his work with The Internet and this is a good track to back this up. Steve is a wildly eclectic musician from acoustic wonders to energetic, exciting tracks like this funk-driven gem. Channelling his inner Prince, this tune is a slap bass, upbeat beauty…oh, and the title, Playground, is perfectly suited to this week!
