As complex and diverse as English is, in other languages, there are single words that possess deeper and more complex meanings that just don’t have an equivalent in the world’s most spoken language. In German, for example, there is a word that expresses the longing for far-off places, especially ones not yet visited - Fernweh. So, at least now you know the name for the feeling this week’s articles will bring…

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.


This trio from Brooklyn, New York makes a lot of fine, chilled music, but this song is a ‘Wonder’! It brings to mind that sense of longing I mentioned at the opening of this newsletter, but with a warmth and subtleness that is calming and reassuring.
