"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Due to our nomadic history as a species, slowly walking over the earth, spreading humanity to all corners of planet and discovering it’s rich and bountiful wonders, it is no surprise that we focus so much on steps…the phrases and quotes in the English language that mention steps is extremely extensive…’step up to the plate’, ‘every journey starts with one step’, ‘step aside’, ‘step down’, ‘one small step for man…’, get in your 10,000 daily steps! The truth is that if we hadn’t wondered what lay beyond our field of vision and range of experience and taken those first steps into the unknown, then we would not have evolved into the species we are today. The same is true in our daily lives and habits; just as our ancestors had no idea what the journey would bring and the positive impact it would have, we can’t always see the results or benefits that can be developed from simply deciding to make a start, believe in ourselves and take that first step…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

There is no ‘right’ way to run, it’s very personal…but mastering your form can lead to more efficient and faster running...

Over 500 days of running an ultramarathon is an incredible achievement, but with the world record in the bag, how many days can Sahnnon-Leigh Litt do?

It’s often documented that mothers can find extreme strength or speed when their offspring are in danger…but how about running a 100km race…and breastfeeding...

I covered the story of Evan Birch and his incredible dog, Nova back in March, but now you can watch the short film of their adventures together attempting a 100-mile race…

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…

Madness! What a band and what a top tune this is…so lively and upbeat, it’s a sure fire hit to play when your favourite team has just won or you want to get the party up and dancing. It is the “rockiest, rock steady beat of Madness” after all…
