“It is not only possible to say a great deal in praise of play; it is really possible to say the highest things in praise of it. It might reasonably be maintained that the true object of all human life is play.”

G.K. Chesterton

Play can mean many different things to many different people, but the idea of having fun and trying to make things more ‘play’ and less ‘work’ can certainly help with difficult tasks and challenges. Yesterday saw Faith Kipyegon attempt becoming the first woman to break the mythical four-minute mile barrier…although failing short of her ultimate target this time, her incredible run of 4:06:42 is the fastest recorded time for that distance by a female athlete and over one second faster than the current world record, which she also holds. During the build-up to this, and Eluid Kipchoge’s sub 3-hour marathon attempt back in 2019, Nike has made a big effort to make the whole thing fun and playful, pushing the marketing content, highlighting the amazing kit and technology developed solely for the attempt and showing us what is possible when the fun is transferred to an ultimate goal.

I’ve also been having fun recently - playing around, recording one of my runs and uploading to a new YouTube Channel…please check it out, subscribe, like and leave any comments! It’s my first attempt, but experimenting with the camera, angles and putting it all together has been a ‘fun’ experience and one I will keep doing…so stay tuned…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Learning to run easily and smoothly helps to relax your body to take the pressure off the muscles that aren’t needed, and you never know, it might just make it fun too…

OK, so it might not be officially official, but the findings from this study show that in addition to the physical benefits, the mental health benefits from being outside can be numerous…

If you want to immerse yourself in nature and fully get out in the wild, then these thru-hikes provide plenty of chances to do just that…

Nepalese ultra running sensation, Sunmaya Budha, is running to show women and girls that they can choose their own path…and showing them how it’s done…

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…

This simple combination of a stunning voice, full of emotion and the strong, assured piano just sounds like it was a lot of fun to record and is so full of feeling it pours out of the speakers. Short but very sweet…
