“Every act of will is an act of self-limitation. To desire action is to desire limitation. In that sense, every act is an act of self-sacrifice. When you choose anything, you reject everything else.”
G. K. Chesterton
Running, particularly trail running, is, in reality, a rejection of comfort and ease. When we step out into the wild, often leaving paved paths behind, we are embracing the unpredictability of nature and the adventure that lies ahead. In these times, we push ourselves to be uncomfortable - whether tackling tough climbs, rough weather, or taking on longer distances and routes. We test and sometimes push our bodies to their limits while at the same time changing our expectations of what we can achieve. So the question then becomes: what are we willing to reject and limit in our lives in order to see the growth and improvements in the area we want to perform in? Time is limited, so choose to reject the easy and strive for the hard, whatever that may mean for you…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...
