"Buy the ticket, take the ride."

Hunter S. Thompson

Sometimes in life, you have to take a leap, do what feels uncomfortable, and just go for it. Embrace opportunities with a fearless and open mind. The results can often be surprising, exciting, and even transformative. It matters not so much what the thing is; maybe it is a race distance that you haven’t attempted before, an adrenaline-fuelled adventure that pushes your limits, or tackling a new and unknown route. The important thing to remember is that if you don’t ‘buy the ticket’, you’ll never get to see the results. We can choose how we spend our time and energy, but we can’t control the outcome. However, if we are hesitant and resistant and choose not to try, there is one thing we can be sure of - we won’t ever enjoy the outcome we desire…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…

A book, a film and now a musical. The wonderfully touching novel, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, is a story of a man’s long walk to visit a dying friend, which ultimately becomes a profound journey of self-discovery. This song is from the new musical, written by folk crooners Passenger, but the lyrics could apply to anyone embarking on a long trail run!
