"You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.”
René Daumal
Yes, it is hard work. Yes, it takes dedication. Yes, it takes commitment…but standing on the summit and seeing the world from a different viewpoint (both physically and mentally) makes all the energy and effort worth it. You can substitute reaching the summit for ‘overcoming a challenge’, or ‘achieving a goal’…the point is, once you have seen what is out there and what you are capable of, the world can look different and you can feel different. You realise you are made from tougher stuff and have more resilience in you than you thought…but you have to get out there and overcome whatever it is to get to enjoy and witness that amazing view from above and that incredible feeling of having conquered it…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
Biffy Clyro were in the news this week as an error in their visa applications has led to the cancellation of their entire US tour that was due to happen before the end of the year. Don’t worry, the story has a happy ending as they are now featured here with a cracker of a song from their latest album! Hurrah…
