“Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill. Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt. Chase after money and security and your heart will never unclench. Care about people’s approval and you will be their prisoner. Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity.”
Laozi
During this holiday period, there will, hopefully, be some time to take a step back and pause for a while. Amongst the chaos, busy schedules and multitudes of commitments, it is important to take a breath and allow time for rest and recovery. This week, I am offering up something different, intended to provide a time to help reflect and relax; four short films highlighting amazing adventures, achievements and lessons that can be learned from the travails of others. From running with elite athletes in Kenya, to helping communities recover from devastating natural events, enjoy these glimpses into the effort and mindset of some outstanding trail and endurance athletes. This is the last issue of the year, but I will be back with more adventures and stories in 2026…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Stepping up to the start line of The Speed Project was not the start of this amazing journey for Tommie Runz…

Tara Dower has had a pretty special last couple of years, setting the FKT for the Appalachian Trail in 2024 and winning the Javelina Jundred in 2025. This is her story…

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
I try to mix up and vary the styles and artists I share here, but this week I have another tune from Cam, whom I featured a few months ago (his track is even from the same album release). The song is called ‘Wherever You Are’ and is a fun and lively tune, with a nice flow and a great sentiment. It seems perfectly suited for this time of year as people travel and relocate for the holidays...sounds like the Christmas spirit to me…
