"Think of yourself in a concert hall listening to the strains of the sweetest music when you suddenly remember that you forgot to lock your car. You are anxious about the car, you cannot walk out of the hall and you cannot enjoy the music. There you have a perfect image of life as it is lived by most human beings.”
Anthony de Mello
Many positives can be found in trail running, hiking and generally getting outside and enjoying the natural world…for me, one of my favourite aspects of trail running is the ease in which is allows me to disengage from the ‘real’ world - for a short (or long!) time you can leave the noise and constant mental effort behind…forget about schedules, to-do lists, lost keys and general life - what matters is being in the moment and the job that is at hand - namely enjoying the effort, energy and peace that hard work and beautiful scenery provides, if you let it. It doesn’t have to be trail running, of course, but whatever can help you get lost in what you are doing and achieve that precious state of mind…namely, flow. I am going to try and find more of this wonderful mindset in 2026 and in more activities outside of hitting the trails…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

A few weeks ago, I mentioned I was listening to the incredible podcast on the life and influence of Nigeria’s musical hero, Fela Kuti (please find it and give it a listen; it’s well worth the time). So, this week, I am honouring the man himself and all his magnificent glory. This tune is long, but so hypnotising and groovy. Powerful, impactful and a totally brilliant jam….
