"The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.”

Emily Dickinson

Too often in these chaotic, modern times, we shut ourselves off from the world, closing up and fearing to embrace new ideas, experiences, or situations because of the danger of exposing ourselves to what might be out there. It seems as if the world is more polarised and fragmented than ever before, which makes us hesitant to dive in and explore. Emily Dickinson spent most of her life hidden away from the world and was better known as a gardener than a poet during her lifetime, but she is now regarded as one of the great American poets of the last century. She wrote hundreds of poems in her lifetime, but her work only gained fame and praise after her death. It is evident from this quote that she understood about truly living, though, encouraging people to be open and aware of the possibilities for new experiences and wonder whether near or far. You don’t need to scale mountains or compete at a high level to enjoy these experiences, but merely need to remind yourself to open your soul and be prepared to let them in wherever you may find them...

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Chilled, laid back and pretty darn cool…Jack Johnson has been doing it with style for many years. 2026 is shaping up to be a busy one for a lot of people’s favourite surfer troubador dude. A new film focusing on surfing and music, accompanied by a soundtrack and a lengthy tour, awaits. This track is the first single from that soundtrack album and sees him link up with some equally cool fellows, the Hermanos Gutiérrez. Get your shades on and feet up...

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
