"To enjoy life, the adventurous state of mind must be grasped and maintained. The essential feature of adventure is that it is a going forward into unknown territory.”

Agnes Martin

When I look at some Anges Martin paintings, the compositions with their muted colours and precise and fine horizontal lines, often slowly fading into the expanse, I am taken back to an early morning, seeing the soft silhouette of the far horizon, working hard with tired legs, but an inspired mind. Heading to a destination somewhere ahead. This is part of the adventurous spirit of mind that is important to maintain; it can be nurtured and encouraged partly through marvelling at the beauty, whether we are looking at nature or art. Take a moment to pause, even if only mentally, to appreciate and relish in the wonder around us and the exciting mindset required to keep us going forward into unknown territory and towards that distant horizon…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

It is widely considered that adding strength workouts is essential, for runners it is also important to focus on the eccentric movements…

Although many trail runners will undoubtedly have their own opinions on the candidates to be included in the ‘seven wonders of the trail running world’, these are all epic…

Even if there are more cameras, more influencers and more teams, the Speed Project is still an intense and slightly crazy race…

A few weeks ago, I covered the coaching that helped to power Molly Sidel to fourth at the Black Canyon 100k race, her first ultra. This is a wonderful in depth view into her mindset during this period...

Another one to file under, ‘what, how long ago?’ as this tune from Chris Stapleton was released over 10 years ago as the title track from his debut album. It is a lovely Country song that has a rolling, bouncing and just smooth feel from start to finish…

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
