"The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it.”

Kalpana Chawla

Kalpana Chawla knew the path from dreams to success well: she trod it with ambition. Kalpana grew up far from Kennedy Space Centre in India, but dreamed of working in space and, one day, making the journey beyond our atmosphere. She achieved that dream and, in doing so, became the first woman of Indian origin to reach space on the Space Shuttle Columbia mission in 1997. She worked with NASA and developed many systems that helped drive space missions. Tragically, she died in the Columbia shuttle disaster in 2003, but not before cementing her legacy as an inspiring individual through all that she had achieved from such a different background. What can we learn from Kaplana’s example? Once you have a clear idea and dream, the key to success is to take that first step. Making that first move is often the hardest part, but all journeys start with a single step. From there, you need to find the grit, determination, and resilience to see your dream through to fruition, whether it is a small task to be completed or something as grand and incredible as travelling to space…
