"The secret to happiness, of course, is not getting what you want; it's wanting what you get.”
Alex Trebek
As Josh Kerr toed the start line at the Diamond League meet on the 18th July, he wasn’t thinking about failure. Months of physical and mental preparation had brought him to the precipice of achieving a single goal. He felt good; strong and ready to make history. Despite all of the dedication and conditioning, he had also trained himself to be at peace with any outcome. If the 27 year old world record mile time had been beyond his reach, he would have accepted it and moved on to his next attempt. Professional and recreational athletes alike know that in sport anything can happen. Being satisfied with the work you have put in and the effort you exert can be enough to leave you fulfilled (but still hungry for more!) As is often the case, sport reflects life’s challenges back at us. If we can apply this flexible mindset to daily life, loosen our grip on the constant need for more, new, and better and develop contentment in the process and effort itself, we can find a freedom and hopefully, a chance for happiness…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Another one this week that is a solid pump up track to get you moving when you need that beat to help drive you forward. Pusha T’s Diet Coke may not be about the fizzy soda drink, but really that’s irrelevant when it comes to the sound and flow of the track…
Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
