"Just start by creating your day. Then create your life.”
Prince
This summer has seen record times and FKTs broken by athletes worldwide, some more than once in a short time. Names such as Aurélien Sanchez, Vincent Bouillard, Jenn Lichter, Katharina Hartmuth and Sophie Woods have been joined in recent weeks by Nick Fowler and Megan Eckert, who set a new PCT FKT and a new American 6 day endurance running record, respectively. The commonality between them all? They did the hard thing. Over and over again. Step by step. Day by day. Over time, this helped them develop the ability, strength and drive to not just win, but break records along the way. This is echoed in Prince’s quote…you really can make the life you want, but it has to be done every day, consistently, to really see results and break your own records or challenges. Even when we don’t achieve the goals we have set, we can learn from the experience, and every day we are learning, we are building up ourselves and growing towards a better life…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

…then be prepared to be amazed. Nick Fowler has beaten Aurélien Sanchez’s recent FKT by over two hours, but unlike Sanchez, he did it unsupported. An incredible feat of human endurance and mentality…

Studies may be limited on the subject for now; but the evidence points to the gender gap closing between men and women at endurance events. As evidenced by some incredible woman over the past few months…

As the story above highlights, women have been breaking records all summer in endurance events and Megan Eckert is the latest to show the men how it’s done…

Ultrarunning is a tough sport. No matter how many hours are put into training and how much planning is put into race preparation, having to DNF can be caused by many things and sometimes it’s just the best thing to do no matter how painful…

A bit like the old saying about London buses goes, “you wait ages for one and then two come along at the same time!” Not quite at the same time, but hot on the heels of the recent tune selection from Prince, along comes this newly released live version of this wonderful song, performed by Prince, from his fabled vault of music. With the Prince quote this week and this song selection, I promise I will go easy on his Purpleness from now on…
Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
