"Happiness, not in another place but this place ... not for another hour, but this hour.”
Walt Whitman
Life moves fast in today’s world. During each day, we are bombarded with new information, new experiences, new ideas and new possibilities. So much so that it can be completely overwhelming. For example, it is estimated that more photos are taken every two minutes today than existed in the entire world 150 years ago. As a result of this saturation and overstimulation, we are led to believe that the next thing, idea or change we make will be the one that gives us satisfaction and peace, but as we quickly find out, this is only replaced with a new desire or idea. If only this or if only that is repeated over again until our minds are spinning and lost in an unbridled quest for more. Walt Whitman must have felt similar feelings- in his lifetime he witnessed the birth of photography, the invention of the electric light, the telephone, early automobiles, Charles Darwin’s evolution theories, the development of anaesthesia and the American Civil War, to name just a few; these events must have been tempting to get caught up in and swept away with a wish for more or further progress, but even during this tumult he recognised the need to be present at that very moment and space he found himself in. That is the only one that matters. No one knows what is next. We do know our present is here and is real. That is what matters. That is where we need to try and find happiness, whether out on the trails or elsewhere; be present and try to find the happiness in everything you do…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

📸 Gif-sur-Yvette, Paris, France

This brilliant band from Margate, England bring a wonderful blend of Afro-Disco, Jazz and Rock…and an awesome energy too (this track is called NRG!) Their songs have been cut from long jam sessions and this connection and vibe are audible in the music they chose to put out. Positive and lively, this is the music we need. Well done, Pigeon!
Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
