"When you start a new trail equipped with courage, strength, and conviction, the only thing that can stop you is you."
Ruby Bridges
Ruby Bridges knows more than most about embarking on a new adventure with courage, strength and conviction. She had to spend a lot of her time at school with only one teacher who agreed to teach her. She was accompanied to and from school, and even to the bathroom, by Federal agents. She faced people hurling insults as well as objects in her direction and her family faced persecution and threats. Why did she have to face up to and overcome all of this? In the early 1960s, Ruby Bridges was the first African-American to attend an all white public school in the South, helping to lead the way to ending segregation across America. What has got to do with trail running and hiking? Although our endeavours are not as historic as those that Ruby Bridges faced, we can all learn from the strength and courage she possessed and displayed, no matter how trivial or insignificant the task at hand…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
The original tune I had in mind for this week was Snap’s 1990s club banger, The Power…you know the one - “I’ve got the power!”…but, after looking at some other options, I have instead gone for this lovely funk/soul number from the ever-so-smooth Curtis Harding…same sentiment, but a bit fresher and up to date…and it might not get stuck in your head quite as much…
