Kings of the Trail #007

Welcome to Kings of the Trail #007!

Spring brings with it a sense of optimism and hope for the months ahead, knowing that warmer weather and longer days lie ahead. It can also be a time to find new inspiration and excitement in your running and hiking as well as an opportunity to set new goals, so we look at some strategies to make the most of your running and how to find or reconnect to the 'why' amongst all the noise.

If you want to find inspiration in nature we cover some truly breathtaking fitness locations to consider for this year. We also look at someone who is inspiring others through her collective Ultra Black Running and how seeing yourself reflected on the trails can help open the trails for everyone.

More to come next week, but for now, enjoy this week's edition, be safe and enjoy the trails…

Here are seven useful strategies to liberate inner fortitude and to make running an enjoyable experience.

Get fit, enjoy stunning landscapes and be thoroughly inspired, what's not to love?

Dora Atim, Nike coach and founder of Ultra Black Running, talks about the importance of seeing yourself represented in your sport.

Ultrarunner Ryan Montgomery's suggestions start with not focussing on technology but remembering the feeling when you started.

Each week we will update our Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone.

This breezy, sunny number from British singer/songwriter Nick Mulvey comes from his excellent (and in my opinion underappreciated) 2022 album, New Mythology. A nice chilled beat is great for recovery or zone-2 runs while the easy-going guitar and soft harmonies wash over you in this indie-folk track.

Hitting the trail is hard work and recovery is an essential part of any training programme, so how about sitting back and taking a few moments to enjoy some fun?
