"Sometimes the biggest problem is in your head. You’ve got to believe you can play a shot instead of wondering where your next bad shot is coming from.”
Jack Nicklaus
If I were to give Mr Niklaus a proper and full introduction, it would take up most of this newsletter; his achievements are so numerous. Arguably one of the greatest golfers of all time, he has the most Major tournament wins (18), third most PGA tournament wins (73), one of only five players to have achieved a career Grand Slam, designed over 400 golf courses worldwide, played in the most consecutive Masters tournaments (44) and (maybe coolest of them all) has the nickname ‘The Golden Bear’…you get the idea. So, for me, when someone who has managed to blend the highest level of sporting excellence with a stunning amount of consistency speaks, then it’s probably worth paying attention to. Although his quote above references golf, it is very applicable to anything we attempt in life, especially when the going is tough, as a positive mindset can make the difference between hitting your goals or falling short. Finding a way to quieten the negative and doubting voices and focusing on what is possible can be a great way to dig out that extra energy and motivation to get you over the line, whether that is just some help to get started or when you are in the middle of trying times…
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

If you’re looking for some incredible travel ideas, these options could be the answer, with not a race in sight…

Ultrarunning legend, Zac Miller, contemplates whether impressive race performance comes from a little race day magic or whether hard work and consistency are the real stars of the show...

I haven’t featured an old-school soul banger in a few weeks, so it's high time that is corrected. Legend has it that Millie Jackson’s career began in 1964 after entering a talent contest in Harlem as a dare, which she went on to win. However, it began, we are lucky it did, as this track highlights. This one starts with a cheeky guitar funk riff, some uplifting strings and a banging horn section, but when Millie’s voice kicks in, you really get the feels…
Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
