"At every moment, we always have a choice, even if it feels as if we don’t. Sometimes that choice may simply be to think a more positive thought.”
Tina Turner
The Queen of Rock and Roll knew a fair bit about resilience and staying the course. No doubt, retaining a positive mindset played a huge part in her long and successful life, during which she left an indelible mark on music and pop culture. From belting out some of the most famous songs as a solo artist and sharing the stage with most of the greatest musicians in the world, to surviving an abusive marriage, suffering through kidney failure and having to learn to walk again after a stroke, she was the epitome of an indomitable spirit and the power of positive thinking. That general outlook on life, that no matter what is thrown at you, you can choose to be happy and positive, is one that we can all use when out on the trails, as undoubtedly, things will not always go our way and unexpected challenges can be faced at anytime. You can always choose to look at these events in a different, more positive way, even if you simply use them as tools for learning and growth and not as failures or setbacks. That is a choice we all have, if only we can keep that in mind when the time arises...
Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Running can be hard. Running in the cold can be harder. This pain and discomfort can be an important part of growing stronger and developing endurance, as Sabrina Little explains…

Born in the UK, Fell Running is often seen as a return to a more pure form of running, with less reliance on marked routes or trails, self-navigation using maps, and usually, a lot of mud...

Often in second-hand running shoes, with no fancy tech or running gear, these incredibly hard working rickshaw drivers are winning trophies and setting the pace at endurance events...

From Billie Holiday in the 1930s, to the folk heroes of the 60s & 70s, up to modern rockers like Green Day and Bruce Springsteen, protest songs have long been part of our music and culture. Musical artists have been trying to express the concern and desire for change that everyday people feel in times of upheaval and tumult. U2's new EP, Days of Ash, joins this long history and sees them back to producing some of their best music for a while…with the Edge ripping the guitar on the track, American Obituary, and Larry Mullen Jr back on drums, this sees U2 at their most urgent and rock fuelled best…
Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
