“Nothing worthwhile comes easily. Half effort does not produce half results. It produces no results. Work, continuous work and hard work, is the only way to accomplish results that last.”

Hamilton Holt

Hamilton Holt was a key player in the League to Enforce Peace, started in 1915. This group pushed for an international body that, through collective action, could prevent future wars. It was the influence behind the creation of the League of Nations in 1920. How is this related to trail running and hiking? Hamilton firmly believed that peace could not be achieved through merely passive effort, but it needed structure, commitment and education. It required work and devotion. Endurance forms the foundation of everything from diplomacy to dirt trails. We can improve, get stronger and build resilience, enjoying nature and being free, if we work hard over and over. Then it is possible to produce the results we are after, whether that is peace of the soul or peace in the world…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Most students on their spring break look for fun, partying and distraction, but not Cooper Lutkenhaus, he went to Poland and won a gold medal, becoming the youngest ever to do so in the process…

There are parallels in ultrarunning that can be found in leadership and lessons that can be applied to both, as these metaphors show…

Spring is here in the Northern Hemisphere, but with the longer days also comes rain. Here are some tried and tested ways to stay dry and comfortable in the downpours…

Cycling across America, running in the footsteps of Greek Heroes and swimming between continents, these crazy endurance events are a different level...

📸 Boca do Inferno, Cascais, Portugal

Even if you have not heard this (the original) track, you will have come across it in some form - it’s been sampled by artists such as N.W.A and Eminem, used in the film Snatch and was included in the Grand Theft Auto game. Written by James Brown, no less, it was recorded by his backing band, Maceo & The Macks. The Maceo is none other than Maceo Parker. Originally released in 1975, it was rereleased in 1987 and hit #1 in the UK Dance Chart. Fascinating and a great tune!

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
