Kings of the Trail #165

Go Further & Explore More...

"I always loved running ... it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.”

Jesse Owens

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been trying to enjoy running in the same way Jesse Owens describes above. After completing a big race, it was time to take it easy and reconnect with running purely for the love of moving freely and smoothly under my own steam. I have been taking the opportunity to look around and soak up the sights and sounds encountered on the trails. No specific workout, pace goal or elevation target in mind. Building slowly and reconnecting with my body. Running is inherently simple, but it can easily be overcomplicated or lost in data-driven metrics, something West African runners can attest to (see story below). There will be other races and goals to aim for, but in this moment, the freedom of the trails and the joy of being out there are enough for me…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Something a bit more gentle this week. Their sound is described as ‘cosmic country’ which sounds pretty cool. This track has an undulating, smooth flow with a lively upbeat tone. A good one for the warm summer days ahead…

Each week, I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection of music. Like trail runs or hikes, the playlist will be varied and eclectic, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy…
