"Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts."

John Wooden

Perseverance, resilience, commitment…there are many words for this particular trait and many more quotes and stories of people exhibiting them. Bouncing back from continued and persistent knockbacks to rise and claim glory. An age-old story often repeated. What I like most about the above quote, however, is the first part about success not being the endpoint. When you achieve something, no matter how small, that’s not the time to stop. It takes courage to keep going through the tough times, but it also takes courage to start over when you have achieved your goals. There are so many ways this mindset can be applied to both life and perusing outdoor adventures, whether on the trails or in the city. Make sure you keep making it count whatever you are doing and wherever you are on your journey…

Until next week, be safe and enjoy the trails...

Each week I update the Kings of the Trail playlist with a new selection – just like trail runs or hikes, you can be sure that it will be a varied and eclectic journey, but hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The Philarmonik is a multi-instrumentalist, rapper and singer and with his slick band recently won NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest. This song is awesome. Lively, clever and has the line: “Now, if you fall seven times, make sure you get up eight.” Sage advice in the theme of this week’s quote. Get up again and get back at it with this tune to liven you up. While you’re at it, you should also catch their Tiny Desk performance.
